I used the power truck from an RMT RDC unit.  It's the old K-Line truck with the embedded motor.  I removed the traction tire wheel and used a plain wheel to enhance reliability, no traction tires needed for a single car.

Another option I'm considering for a similar project is the truck from the RMT speeder, it's another K-Line design.

I saw John's buzzing around the North Penn O Gauger's layout yesterday.  Fastest thing on the railroad!!  It was a pleasure seeing John, the North Penn guys, and Harry H in action!  Photo to prove I was there.  I'm also surprised this shot didn't break Chuck Fester's camera!!

We end up with one on campus for a week every semester I have been at Penn State. It's strange because they just seem to circle campus then leave...

Pat, I used one of the Big Dawgs Greeting Card Modules, and I replaced the three batteries using a little track powered DC supply.  I am not happy with the volume, so I'm going to be replacing it with a more robust MP3 player to give me more volume.  I'm using the Mini-Commander II with the smoke option, I use the smoke output to run the strobe and trigger the sounds.

If you look at eBay: 171764659608, that's the module I'm using for my upcoming audio player system, it has MUCH more volume.  You'll still need a power supply, and it'll have to supply several hundred milliamps, but you won't be lacking for sound volume!
