I have the Imperial CSX SD70Ace and is this a known paint defect on the ac unit over the cab.? The paint is cracking.

Call MTH or your dealer and send it back.
I have an Imperial BNSF SD70, from the Husky Stack RTR set released in November 2010. The paint is cracking and/or gone all along the black roof from the cab, to the rear of the engine. I took it back to my dealer who then took it to MTH. From what I was told when I spoke with MTH on the phone to get an RA (I'm lucky to be close enough that my two dealers drive to MTH weekly) and it would either be replaced (entire engine) or sent back to China to be repainted all under the long expired warranty. Swapping the shells isn't an option as, according to MTH, the LED lighting and associated PS3 lighting features won't work in my PS2 version.

David1 is right. I would start with your dealer. He or she should either exchange it or send it back to MTH for a new cab.
