I want to paint my 44 ton engine from MTH.  The shell is metal.

I would like to keep the blue and just paint over the silver with yellow.  Can I take that shortcut or am I just asking for trouble?

Would it be better to just strip off all the paint and start from scratch?  If so, I have used Isopropyl Alcohol to remove MTH paint from plastic.  Does it work the same for metal?

Thanks.

Ron

I wouldn’t strip off anything but the lettering Ron, .....looking at your work piece, the details look nice and stout, not everything you guys paint has to be stripped to bare base material, .....if small details have a chance of being obscured, then sure, strip to base materials so they’re not obliterated, ....in the case of this shell, wipe off the lettering, lightly scuff with fine scotchbrite ( grey) wash with warm soapy water, let dry, mask & paint away,.....when your done scuffing that silver, it’s gonna look like grey primer anyways,......good luck, have fun!
