I need a part for the motor truck on my Postwar Lionel 44 missile launching locomotive. I cannot find a part number. I am looking for the small nylon spacer that is riveted in place where the decorative side frames would normally be attached. It serves to keep the truck centered when the engine is going straight, and gives the truck something to rock on.
The Modern era issues use this part too.  It is circled on the truck pictured below.

I looked on the Lionel website, and the only listing is for the complete motor, and no breakdown of individual parts listed.  This is a longshot, but do you have the pieces from the original.  It may sound stupid, but you may have to try and make a mold of the piece, and make a new one.  The only other recourse would be to find a junker, to get the piece. The next best bet would be to contact "Jeff at Train Tender", and see what he says.  That is a unique piece, that probably isn't produced as a replacement part.  Good luck in your search.

Charlie,

That's a tough one.

It's part number 44-105, and Lionel called it a "motor bearing" even though I don't think either one of us would describe it that way.

Given the fact that a breakdown showing the part has never been published to my knowledge, the odds of finding them for sale isn't good. Heck, I had to go to some unpublished paperwork to find the part number.

But given the relative simplicity of the part, it might be a good candidate for 3D printing. Shoot me a note if you need further help.

Regards,

TRW

Todd: Thanks for the part number.

Rob: Thanks for the suggestion. Those parts won't work because the piece that projects to the side is quite long. There is one on each side of the motor. Between the two, they reach right up to the edge of the frame.
The "motor bearing" is fine on one side, but it seems that someone cut the bearing short on the other side. There is enough of a stub left to allow me to put a block on the underside of the frame to correct the problem, but I'd rather replace the bad part if I can find one.

I bet it would be a good candidate for 3D printing, but I don't have the software, hardware, or tools to precisely measure the part.

Now that I have a part number, I will try looking for the part again. I guess I will be looking for a junker too.
