...Because I'm only a person of sound logic that would do such a thing!

In September I opted to replace my old 0-27 PRR passenger cars with Railking 60' Madisons - the new cars make a BEAUTIFUL train behind my Railking Imperial K4. My old layout, with a new extension, had rough track to put it nicely - a mix of Ross, 0-27 Tubular and O Gauge tubular - had many dips, kinks, low joints, etc. As a result, the new cars with 6 wheel rigid trucks didn't get a long so well. Constant derailments and more all caused by the lousy track. In addition, steam locomotives had major problems navigating the layout - getting stuck with wheels lifting off low rails, derailing, little traction, etc. So what is a reasonable person to do? Build a brand new layout.

I've (more or less) completed the layout for now although there are things I'd like to change or spruce up already. It is 4x8 (old was 8x8 when it came down but started on a 4x8). Two loops of Atlas track, one Atlas switch and one leftover Ross switch. Not very exciting but it is great to have a layout with good track work and can regularly run steam engines pulling more than 2 or 3 cars and can now run my PRR Passenger cars. Photos below. Photos are quick with no tripod so bear with me....

I've also reduced my collection significantly and continue to have a number of items for sale on the for sale forum. I've opted not only do I not have the time and space to run most of this stuff but no place to store it, maintain, etc.

Thanks for sharing your photos with us!

I'm doing the same thing, rebuilding my layout because of a set of passenger cars that I want to run and currently can't.  In my case, however, I have a set of scale cars that need minimum 0-72 curves, so out go the 0-63 and 0-54 in favor of new 0-80 and 0-72!

Jim

Thanks all for the kind words.

Earl - not sure what that gravel "path" is intended to be...that is just covering up some wiring and is a temporary measure although it likely will be a "long" temporary. Also tried to put some turned up dirt in front of some of the graves to simulate a "fresh" burial. Those will get touched up.

Mike - This isn't a very fancy layout. Regardless, I'm a rather impatient person. When I can, I try to spend at least a few minutes each evening working on it or just running a train, dusting, etc.

i'm one of those "if it doesn't fit on the layout" get rid of it people.  i was accumulating a lot of stuff and there was no way to get to my new addition area of the layout to work on things.  i'm at the end of the sell off.  now i have some cash to do a different/better addition than where i was going before.  i'll never finish a layout but that's my hobby.  buying/selling/building/tearing up.  i find it boring to watch a train go around a circle after a few minutes...i'm not sure how big a layout would have to be to be exciting to run for me and i don't think i'll ever make it due to other parts of the hobby...tearing up and selling!
