As long as they are not binding; still have good spring action; spin freely and do not have a groove worn in them, they should not need to be replaced.
I would check the wiring to make sure you do not have a loose connection; lightly polish the rollers to get any grime build-up off ( a Dremel with a non-abrasive polishing/buffing wheel is good for this); make sure to clean both the engine wheels and the track rails before, after and on the switch; and lubricate the rollers with an electrically conductive oil (like Bachman's EZ Lube) and see if that helps.
