"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Dear List,

Just purchased my first G loco stated in subject and I have a few questions some of you G guys could answer. 1- what scale is this loco(I.E. 1:29) ?, 2-what Kadee G scale coupler is correct to install? 3- those that own this loco, what are your thoughts? 4- Does anyone in G make a decent Reading Bobber caboose to go with this model.

Thanks in advance and no, I am not changing from O scale 2 Rail. Regards, John P.Dunn Sr. Scale2Rail Promotions

I wanted to help on your post, on another forum as well. I don't own this loco and have only seen it once at a show.

I have dealt with KDs and they have a nice assortment that fits just about every app. Sometimes, I get advice from other guys on what coupler they've used. I've learned to keep an open mind. The large offset couplers that some use, will release when pulling a large train. I'm not sure you'll ever do this with the engine. I always try now to get the straight shanked couplers or the least offset, and make spacers for them that are solidly mounted and won't let the coupler dip out.

 Sorry I can't help more.

I try to get the new "E" ones too, because you don't see the spring! I feel they look the best. I also try to body mount everything.

I agree about avoiding the Kadees with the offset shanks if possible, because the offset does tend to make the coupler pull out of alignment.

As far as the scale of the model is concerned, since the Reading was a standard gauge railroad, the correct scale to match the G gauge track (1-3/4" between the rails) should be 1:32. However, most G gauge manufacturers take wide liberties concerning scale with their products. ForRepresenting European meter gauge, 1:22.5 is close, while 1:20.3 is good for 3' gauge. For 42" gauge use 1:24. Polls used 1:29 because that is 3 times HO scale, which made it easy for them to scale up HO scale products into their large scale product line.
