The three steam locomotives owned by the City of Portland are preparing to move to the new Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation facility shortly.  The are SP4449, SP&S700 - both operational, and OWR&N 197, which is still under restoration.

Construction is moving right along on the new site.  Pretty exciting for everyone out here.

From what I understand July 2012 is the target date, although as you point out progress to date doesn't indicate it will be ready by then.  Don't know how hard the "get them out of Brooklyn" date is with the Union Pacific.

There are supposed to be plans for the Brooklyn site which are driving the locomotive removal date ... those type of things could get expensive if they have to keep extending.  Imagine the pressure is on ORHF to "get 'er done"

You could contact ORHF and inquire as "a member of the press"

OK guys, here is the latest, up-to-date information from a spokesperson at ORHF:

1) The move out of Brooklyn Roundhouse  date is BY June 30, 2012  NO MATTER WHAT! In other words, even if the new building is not habitable, EVERYTHING must be out of the Brooklyn Roundhouse BY JUNE 30, 2012!!!!!

2) The building is SCHEDULED to be finished WITH AN OCCUPANCY PERMIT, on July 10, 2012.

3)The building is a pre-fabricated METAL structure.

As a suggestion, please don't start asking "What day are you going to move the three steam locomotives?". No body knows, yet.

Also, the steam locomotives will be TOWED the one mile, or so,  over to the new ORHF building. They will NOT be fired up!!!!

I kind of figured it had to be some sort of pre-fab structure.  Having watched (from a distance via photos) the growth of Jerry Jacobson's roundhouse and other facilities at Sugar Creek, Ohio, I can see where these kinds of things don't pop-up overnight (or even in just a few months).

Seems to me they better get crackin' if they hope to make that July date.
