Anybody know how to identify whether the front piece on a postwar Lionel #55 Tie Jector car is an original Postwar Lionel part, a modern era reissue, or a reproduction?
I picked one up that needs work and some parts. I need to decide whether I am going to repair it.
The part appears to have some age. The only markings I could find is a capital "B" just a bit below the window mullion on the back.

A modern issue tie Jector front is mounts differently, so it won't fit a postwar version. Lionel only used numbers to identify parts, so if there is a 'B' molded in it is a repo part.
I was thinking the "B" was the cavity / mold identification.
I guess Lionel only used numbers there too, I cannot think of any known genuine postwar Lionel parts with a letter to identify the cavity.
