pre-war Hiawatha 250E resto help

I bought an MTH geared drive wheel for the engine and it looks and measures larger diameter and thicker than original. Causes some linkage alignment problems from it being wider. Are Lionel LTI parts a better fit?

 

Second problem is replaced the engine's complete front truck with MTH truck now it wont go through the the old pre-war track switches.

 

Can't seem to find any LTI parts anywhere.

I wouldn't advise trying to use Pride Lines parts as Lionel replacements. I have a Pride Lines Hiawatha and my experience has been that fit and build quality are poor and a lot of things are just not quite right. I've replaced most of the moving parts on mine, including the motor, with LTI or MTH parts.
 
Over the years there have been quite a few reproduction parts made for the Hiawatha. I'd suggest getting in touch with Jeff Kane at The Train Tender, Olsen's Toy Train Parts, George Tebolt, or Henning's. All have websites.

I knew John personally.  He would replace the anemic LTI Hiawatha motor with one of his.  He did this for many people.  His motors ran rough sometimes.  He always made good on anyone that wasn't satisfied with his products.  By the way, I believe his wheels came from George Tebolt, or some other parts source.

I just learned of Pride Lines the other day while browsing e-bay. The MTH wheels are readily available from several vendors out there. I would only like to replace the one bad wheel, but looks like I'll be changing them all to MTH so they match.

 

Thanks for the great information. When I got the train about 15 years ago the only repro that existed I think was the 1988 Lionel 51000.
