I still can't believe Lionel didn't introduce a Union Pacific 21" passenger set in the inaugural catalog for their new 21" passenger cars.  For one, just about every time MTH produces passenger cars, they ALWAYS include a UP run.  So these cars must sell like hotcakes.  Secondly, whether folks have Challengers, FEF's, or even Big Boys, there's always a market for nicely produced UP passenger cars.  Just sort of a motherhood and apple pie type thing, I guess.

I agree.  I was thinking about the Aluminum UP cars in the Lionel catalog but will just get MTH.  Less money and readily available.

scaled 16" to 18" Heavyweight Passenger cars for the average "O" scale Model Railroader. Also reasonable priced items for the first timers, and the old-timers on a budget constraint.

Maybe sooner, then later, "O" scalers will be priced out of continuing, or starting. Let's not forget, these are still "toys"!

1) Hunger Games RTR set

2) Lionel VisionLine Back to the Future Part III Locomotive

3) More LC+ Hudson's in any road name, but no LC+ F3's

4) A bunch of RTR FTs in a variety of road names and fantasy themes.

5) 31" Texas Special and PRR passenger cars despite never shipping the Neil Young ones.

6) More Fastrack modular sections

7) A new version of Lionel's Battle Train game

8) A new product line to add to the existing product lines (Vision Line, LionMaster, LC, LC+, Legacy, RTR), called "LionChief Master"....it will be LionChief engines with scaled down Legacy components that can be run with Legacy, but you will still need a seperate remote if you want to run in conventional mode.

That remote will be called "LionChief Master Jr".

9) A new high end product line called "Lionel ExtremeVisionLine" that will have additional cool features above and beyond the current VisionLine, such as dripping water from steamers and oil from Diesels. MSRP $3000-$4000, and special order BTO (SOBTO) only.

I hear tell MTH is making a oil tender for their 4014 I was told by a big old bird in California.

Actually I think that is in MTH's recent catalog

Its been awhile since anyone posted on this thread, but I we are now much closer to volume 2, so lets revive it! I predict the ten-wheelers from last year's (2014) volume 2 in additional road names and numbers. From what I saw after the first catalog, people liked the new LionMaster Challengers, so probably more LionMaster locomotives.

I'll second that one. 841 or FEF-2 823 in TTG w/silver white. But there I go repeating myself again.

Key-093-FEF-2-2-tone-gray-UP-Customs-Series-No.93-coasting-drive-UP-No.824.11

That is a VERY nice Key 2-Rail model, and brings a pretty high price. That said, I would definitely like to purchase a 3-Rail model of a UP FEF-2 or FEF-3 WITHOUT the up-graded Worthington Feedwater System.

I just came up with another prediction. Its kind of a wish, too. A consolidation locomotive. I think it is a good prediction for 2 reasons:

  1. Lionel hasn't made this model in a while (since 2007 I think)
  2. It would fit into Lionel's new policy (for lack of better word) of creating smaller engines with Legacy to appeal to people with smaller layouts.

Of course, whistle steam is a must!

I'm with you on that one!  And for the past few years, Volume 2 has largely been a rehash of Volume 1 in some form.  Now more than ever, the importers need to be aware that the market can absorb only so many toy/model trains.

As I posted when somebody was asking about MTH's next Tinplate catalog... I'm completely spent for 2015... and then some.    Lionel could publish a catalog the size of a NYC phone book (do they even print those anymore?), and it wouldn't phase me right now.

Those certainly aren't the words importers want to hear, but I will essentially be a big-time browser when the next catalogs are published.  And that's fine by me.  Hopefully they got enough funds from me this time around!
