I received a MTH Proto 3 set from Trainz today and it's a 5-pin connector like my old proto sound diesels. If I remember right my proto-2's have a 10pin but I could be wrong. My layout is down now so I can't test it, but I could open it up and give it a visual exam. Are the newer sets 5 or 10 I'm just worried since it's used it could be in the wrong box.

If you can provide part/model numbers of the trains you are dealing with that would be helpful. Better yet, please post pictures of what you have so that we can get a better idea of what you are seeing.
I opened it up and it has no battery so I'm pretty sure it's proto 3..
Yes that's PS3. The lack of a charging port on bottom is also a good indicator.

What do you mean 5 pin? Is this a Rail King AA set? Is Trail A dummy? If so the external harness would be a 4 pin to the trail A for coupler basic light. G
