I tried to reset with the MTH Chip.  I went through the unlock protosound procedure, but I still cannot unlock steam and diesel engines to run because the previous owners did not keep them running and charged.  They just sit with their lights and sound, but will not move.  Are there any suggestions in getting them to run?

I assume you have other PS-1 engines and know how to operate them?  Pure Sine Wave transformer, voltage less than 10V for initial direction change, fully charged battery that will play shutdown sounds, etc...?

Model numbers help since some engines had software issues allowing an ID conflict and no motion.

If it is an ID issue, it can be reset, but the best alternative is getting the upgrade chip from MTH that prevents ID conflict.  G

I do have other working PS-1 engines.  I periodically run my other engines, but the two that I have get the 3 clanks of doom.  I was able a couple of times to get the NYC steam to run, but then it reverted back to the steam, lights, and no go cycle.  I do work on computers so I am willing to tinker with possible suggestions.

If you have 3 clanks, the chip you have from MTH should work. Once you have completed it, the engine should start up with 2 dings.  As longs as you no longer have the 3 clanks you cleared that hurdle.  Doesn't mean it doesn't still have ID conflict so a further reset can still be in order with factory chips.  G

Is there anything that I can do with my DCS remote through the TIU to unlock my engines?   I am using a Lionel ZW modern era transformer for power.  I did not get to try the unlock, but I will.  I thank everyone for your help.  I am learning from Barry's MTH book and everyone.  If you have any problems where I can help, I will do so.
