Has anyone else purchased an MTH PRR R50b express reefer with the word REFRIGERATOR misspelled? This is 20-94177, #2775. It is wrong on both sides of the car. I hope this is not some crazy prototype where the real paint shop screwed up, because it looks stupid.

How is it spelled on the car?

I don't know what to tell you. I currently have 7 different MTH R50b cars on the layout, in a PRR headend express train, and they all have "REFRIGERATOR" spelled correctly, on both sides.
Looking at images of the actual car on this site:

it looks like it says "REFRIGERATOP" which would qualify as an official oopsie.
That picture doesn't lie Bob, I wonder what happened to the "R".
I've never seen one mispelled, interesting. I purchased a MTH Chessie caboose with the "System" completely missing from one of the two sides. Pad Printer must have missed it, kind of a neat error to own. Certainly unique as is the one you mentioned..........

Another gazillion dollar bo bo. like the infamous Reading & Nortern. I think I will bid on it. one more of those oops cars and I can retire.
Don't think it was a misprint but a paint error. Looks like the R was not fully painted leaving out the right leg resulting in a P.

I have pictures of 3 of my 9 R50bs, and looking at them I have at least one that has the same issue with the R; it looks like a P. It is 20-94117, #2828, with the green (olive) trucks. I agree with Bill; looks like a misprint. A dash of gold colored paint should fix it.
It is not a paint error, because both sides are exactly alike, REFRIGERATOP. I called the hobby shop where I bought it and he has at least one other one with the same misspelling. I'm going to take it to my train club tonight and see how long it takes for someone to notice.
A little gold paint or adding the leg from an R in a decal alphabet set would do it. Collectors will collect anything, so there is probably a market developing for train misprints, sort of like that upside-down airplane on the rare stamp. I want mine to say REFRIGERATOR, so I plan to ruin the collector value of this misprint.
