PS-2 5v ? PS-2 3v

I have a RailKing B-6 Switcher steam Engine

# 30-1170-1

 

 It has the old style PS-2.5v board that has burned up, so I have a #50-1901update kit.

 

One thing that is not addressed is that the old tender set up has two pickup rollers with one red and one black each they are hooked up with 2-wire nuts to 2-red wires and 2-Black wires that come from a 7-Pin connector 2-red 2-black one open one orange and one blue. 

 

The 3volt board s different I am unsure where to connect the track power.

The upgrade kit has a diagram of the wiring, the track power comes in on the 7 pin connector.  Pins 1,2,3 are the tach reader, 4,5 are the chassis (wheels), and 6,7 are the center roller.

 

In your picture, one of the leads to the tach board appears to be missing, that's going to be a problem.

 

Do you realize if you have a 3V board with the standard connectors, you can remove the connector bodies from the old 5V board and replace them on the new board to avoid all the connector swapping?  Also, you are going to have to replace the battery holder, charging jack, and the speaker.

I have done that.

 

I am now getting speaker feed back.

Rudy,  In stead of splicing, if you wanted to install the 3V as a 3V with the new harness, you could just remove one of the red wires from the old black 7 pin connector and insert it into the new white 7 pin connector at the same position.

Just use a pin to lift the tab, and pull the wire out.

I don't have your pictures any more, is there diodes on the harness board that is mounted on the rear of the engine, or on the motor leads.  PV is positive voltage.  Normally the purple wire that is one of the leads to all the lights and the smoke heater, and couplers.  Since you mentioned lights coming on then losing control the PV is the common to the lights.  Do you have sounds?  What do you mean by lose control?  G
