My friend is upgrading his Santa Fe 2-10-4 (20-3056) PS2 5v board with a PS2 3v board.  He has replaced all components in the tender including the tether and is wondering if he should change the tether receptacle located in the locomotive.   The new receptacle has 2 diodes located on the board, whereas the original has none.  There are also 2 additional boards located in the engine for controlling lights.  Am I correct to assume those should be left in place?  Finally, the kit has a choke for placement in the power takeoff wire.  This is necessary for PS1 to PS2, but is it required for PS2 old to PS2 new?

Thanks in advance!

He is doing it wrong, and yes he needs to rewire the engine too and will loose some light features if he goes this route.  The correct way to repair an engine like this is to just replace the board with the PS-2 3V with 5V connectors or a PS-32 with 5V connectors.  Change speaker and battery accordingly.  G
