i have just bought the MTH 30-1477-1 4-6-2-K-4s Pacific Steam
Engine (as marked on the box) which on the MTH website data sheet states that
the Proto-Sound 2 has freight station proto-effects - however, I have
programmed the engine into my DCS control system and it appears to have
passenger station proto-effects - i downloaded the original sound file from the engine to
my PC and it was 2048kb in size-
first question - why is this file larger than the typical sound file downloaded from the
MTH website?
second question - all i want to do is load a freight station proto-effects file into my
new engine - can this be done?
thank you in advance for your help in this matter

Try the 30-1550-1 file. The larger files are used on the PS-2 3V systems, especially engines with more features.
The best way to search is to go the the Service link on MTH home page, then the product file and documents link.
In the search type 4-6-2 or K-4 or both. This will bring up all the product files. You can use the left hand side topics to refine the search, such as Premier or RailKing, even select roadname to refine the search.
Then you can look at the sound files available. PS-2 5V versus 3V and also Passenger versus Freight effects. Hope this helps. G
i did download the file for 30-1550-1 and it is also a small file - i will try to load it to the engine later
in the meantime, thanks for your quick response
Tom, if you don't like the 30-1550-1 K-4 freight file you might also consider trying the 30-1451-1 Railking Imperial L-1 Mikado 3volt file.

thanks for the info Keystone - i will let you know if it works
Tom,
The 30-1477-1 and 30-1478-1 are both Imperial K-4's.
The 30-1477-1 has freight sounds and the 30-1478-1 has passenger sounds.
If your engine has been used, it is possible the file has been change by previous owner. The 30-1477-1 file should work on your engine. Did you try to load it?
i did try once and it gave me errors
i did buy it from someone
i will try again and let you know
thanks Joe
thanks to everyone GGG, Keystone and Joe Allen - i have successfully loaded the freight station proto-effects into my K4 engine and they are GREAT - i had sent an e-mail to the manufacturer over a week ago and i still have no answer - from now on i will use this forum for information
Thanks again - Tom
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but my search yielded no answers.
Is there a tutorial somewhere that describes the steps involved to change a sound file in my Proto 2 Imperial K4? The engine came with some lame conversation between the engineer and his fireman discussing their orders. DUH. I would like to replace the sound file with passenger train arrival and departure station announcements.
I have my TIU upstairs in my train room. My iMac is in my office (and I have access to a PC if needed). Do I need any special cables?
Just need some guidance on the procedure to download and replace a sound file in my MTH Imperial K4.
Also, is there a tutorial that describes how to record and replace the music song that plays in the MTH Coors Silver Bullet?
Thanks,
Terrence
Terrence,
Everything that you need to know about swapping sound files, including step-by-step instructions and required cables, is in The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition, Part VIII - Software Upgrading and Remote Backup/Restore, 6. Changing PS2 Engine Sound Files.
This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
Barry: I've had your DCS book for a couple of years and I never realized it contains a detailed tutorial about sound files. DUH!
Before I ask any questions about MTH/DCS I will consult your book first. You, my friend, are my hero!
