PW 2035 E-Unit problem

Remove the shell and just run the motor and watch the E-Unit plunger as it cycles - especially when you see it hang. Check and see if the plunger is hangling up - among other issues, it may be slightly magnetized.

Do what Dennis suggested. If there is no problem with the e unit cycling there may not be enough tension on the finger contacts. You may have bent the fingers ever so lightly while reassembly that they are not making making good contact on the drum.

A word to the wise and who ever else may be reading this thread. After working on an engine or major assembly never put the engine back together without checking out the assembly. Use a few clip leads and connect the motor brushes and field together and to power and make sure it runs. Do the same with the reverse unit hold it in your hand and cycle it several times and at different voltages to make sure it works properly. Connect the contact fingers in series and connect them to an ohm meter or even a light bulb and make sure you have contact when necessary. These are all simple task that don't take much time but will save many frustrating hours later.
