Jack:

I just received OGR's Great Layout Adventure's No. 8 this week and had a chance to watch it last evening.  First off, my compliments on your Central Connecting Railroad!  I'd seen some photos of the engine terminal area in a past issue of OGR but, seeing the video really convey's what a superb job you have done on your layout!

I also enjoyed your conversation with Rich but, was curious about what led you to going to work for EMD?  Was your background / education in engineering or did you have family who worked for the railroad?

Thanks,
Curt

Thanks Curt, it was really fun and interesting watching Rich Melvin and Kelly Lynch do all that HD videoing.

Maybe you mist that part where Rich asked me how I got started with EMD, but my mom really didn't want me to go to work for a railroad, especially since my father and grandfather both had worked for the PRR. When I tried to hire out as a Hosteler/Helper on the DL&W in Hoboken, in 1958, my mom really blew a gasket! She was bound and determined that I was going to go off to college and "get a GOOD job!". She eventually found two colleges that offered accredited programs in Diesel Technology, Texas A&M and Oklahoma A&M (which then became Oklahoma State Univ.).

To make a long story short, EMD recruited me right out of OSU. My mom was then very pleased, even though she could NEVER "get the railroad out of me", at least I got a "good job".
