1. Does running multiple units with different brand DCC decoders cause problems?

2. Running units with China drives (like an all powered Atlas F unit A-B-B-A), if you removed one motor from one of the F units to install a full cab interior (like P&D), will it have problems synching with the rest of the dual motored units?

Hi Marker,

Running multiple units with different DCC decoder manufacturers isn’t a problem, just be sure to have the speed tables setup so the different locos operate at the same speed for at a given throttle setting and you should be fine.

Running dual motor vertical drives with one motor removed will not have any effect on syncing speed (may require some minor fiddling with the speed tables) “unless” you wire the motors in series as many O Scalers do for these dual motor vertical drive locos in order to improve slow speed performance and eliminate the jackrabbit starts.  If you go the “wired in series” route, then of course the loco with only one motor will in effect be the same as wired in parallel and end up running twice as fast as the other “wired in series” locos since this motor will be getting the full motor output voltage instead of being cut in half as in the series case and this will cause a syncing issue.
