I have a couple of questions on the locomotives in this set:
1. Do they have metal screened vents or just plastic louvers cut in the shell?
2. Do they have metal horns?

The engines have metal screens & metal horns.
Excellent! Whipping out my Discover Card to buy this set. 
You’ll love it! I’ve had one for about a year and it’s one of my favorites. I have a lot of Legacy and MTH PS3 stuff, but the simplicity of this set makes me consider getting rid of everything else

I had to do some searching to find it at a "decent" price. E-bay has them, but they are outrageous.
