Quilling Whistle, makes me want Legacy!

Another victim of Legacy Railsounds!

Be careful, they're like potato chips,can't have just one. The PM berk is one of the best sounding legacy locos to date.

It was nice to meet you and run on your layout.  I'm glad you had fun with the PM 1225 and running it on your layout made me want to get moving on getting mine back up and running.  So it was good for both of us!

Not only are the whistle and sounds excellent, but the speed control is very positive. The only draw back is that the Legacy remote does not display the speed in scale miles per hour, but just as a number; still, no big deal.

As a DCS user for three years and Legacy for less than a year, in my opinion there is not question that Legacy is a great control system. I hope that MTH's next DCS remote has similar features as the Legacy.

See, I have the legacy diesel, but haven't moved from tmcc yet.  I've played with my clubs legacy system and it's a lot of fun.  I'm still working on the basics, but I'm learning.  

Does anyone have the Lionel Legacy Ten Wheeler?  I am looking for a locomotive to pull my passenger trains.   

Is the sound and smoke on this locomotive as good as the Berkshire.  As much as I would love to purchase the PM Berk, the quilling whistle isn't a good enough reason to purchase a locomotive I already have.

Sorry Marty, not quite correct.  Speed steps are closer together relative to track speed at the low end, and at higher speed steps produce a larger speed change.

I did not see/read that thread.  Is there any chance the discusion shifted from actual internal speed steps on the engine vrs the way the velocity throttle sends speed changes to the loco?  The CAB-2 can use a multiplier effect to ramp up the speed faster than the CAB-1 could, aka the faster you spin the knob on a CAB-2, the larger the delta.  There are more input controls on the CAB-2 that effect train speed than the original boost/brake and big red knob on the CAB-1 (e.g. Train brake slider) and even the way the big red knob works are different.  You have much finer and more rapid response under Legacy.

As I was corrected by Jon the speed ramp is not linear and now that I have been corrected it does appear that at lower speeds the steps are much finer.

I know, I have the Lionel legacy Polar Express railsounds tender, and I just love the whistle. I mean its so loud, that it'll make you grit your teeth! I know I do every time I blow it! I just wonder what kind whistle it is?

This may be faulty memory on my part but I thought Warner Brothers recorded the actual PM 1225 for the movie and I thought Lionel did it too.  I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right Eric.  I still have my copy of "Trains" where they have an article of how WB came out and did all the recordings.  

Thanks for refreshing my memory.  Do you remember where Lionel got their PM and PE sounds for those Legacy tenders?

I was told Lionel recorded Railsounds for both the PM & PE tenders from PM 1225.

Got my Legacy Berk last night.  Man she sounds so great, even the chuffing sounds so much better then RS5.0!

Set your momentum about 6 or 7, then spin the speed knob backward a couple of turns  "below"  the zero speed step and listen to your locomotive come to a slow grinding stop. I almost like this feature better than the quilling whistle.

I was playing with this feature this morning and your right, it is pretty sweet.
