Hi, it looks like I'm up ****** creek with this one. My Sunset Northern from early 2000s with ERR TMCC upgrade has been sitting on a shelf for 2 years and when I tried to test run it (no layout....test track) the familiar growl that TMCC units make as the voltage is ramped up was present. But, then rail sounds came on and it sits there making idling sounds, whistle works from the transformer but no forward or reverse and I can't address it with the TMCC remote.  I tried to set the engine number and set feature code and can't do that either. The program switch is good, I checked it with a vom. Looks like shelf death. My other tmcc engines are working just fine. I tried 3 different transformers and took the R2LC board out and reinstalled it. The electronics are all in the brass tender. The shell is insulated from the trucks and I checked that out just to be sure because the shell is the antenna. This engine has been a good runner as long as I've had it. I don't have any spare boards, so what happens now?  Will I have to buy an upgrade kit in order to get this engine working again? (I think Lionel stopped supporting this) Anyone have spare R2LCs they can part with?

Royz Trains (google to find site) sells used Lionel R2LCs when he has them (just looked and he was out of stock). I bought an ERR R4LC from him, which is ERR's version of the R2LC (i.e., its TMCC, not Legacy). If interested, call him and discuss with him - he was very cooperative and helpful when I bought an ERR Cruise Commander M to add cruise control to my 28028 Allegheny.
