I don't chase rare mileage on the rails, but I know several people who do and others that have an interest. This will be a first for passengers on this line.

This weekend, the MBTA (Mass Bay Transportation Authority) will pick up passengers from Providence and TF Greene Airport and take them to the Air Show at Quonset Pt RI. Also the founding home and Museum of the SeaBees.

The Seaview Railroad handles the freight interchange from the Providence & Worcester at Davisville RI  on the NEC for switching at the huge Quonset Business Park. This is a major port entry for Audis and VW's. A good amount of freight is handled at this small railroad.

The MBTA will take the Davisville switch, (Between Wickford Jct and TF Greene Airport) presumably pick up a  Seaview employee, go through the yard and head down to the former Naval Air Station on the point of Narragansett Bay.  This is literally across the street from Electric Boat / Gen. Dynamics where the keels are laid for our subs. They are assembled here including the modules and taken to Groton CT for final assembly.

The three specials will hang out at the air show and take passengers back. Approx 1,800 people can board each train. Having waited on very long lines for the bus shuttle from the remote lots, I can say this will be a huge improvement to the experience.

Nice teamwork with MBTA and Eric Moffett, President Seaview Transportation. I am meeting with Eric on Monday, but that's a different story...

Hi Paul

The local news gave high marks for the train yesterday. Unfortunately the rain put the proverbial damper on the afternoon here in RI. Today is bright and sunny - a perfect day for an air show.

Regarding passenger service, there is no chance for passenger service into the Quonset Business Park. There is a MBTA station at Wickford Junction, a short 10 minute drive to the Park.  Amtrak also stops at Kingston and Providence, each about 20 -25 minutes away.

Seaview Transportation also runs the Newport Dinner Train and has two Budd cars being put back in service for rides this summer.
