It took many months, but I finally found the correct paint which happened to be Rust-oleum satin black. Should I try and blend it even more and please post your suggestions below.

Very Nice!
Thank you very much! My goal is to make it look un-noticeable on camera since I plan to start youtube filming with it on my new layout build.
My day job is matching/blending/ touching up paint work……your work looks very very good, …..I can see your overlaps ( not being overbearing) …try this: allow the finish to cure very well. A few days to a week,….get a cheap, soft paint brush, I like 2” elcheapo paint brushes from like Ace Hardware or the Dollar general,….use the brush dry, nothing on it, and mimic the action as if you were polishing a pair of shoes,….use little to no pressure though,…..the strokes of the brush will act like a blender and blend out your finish,….do not wipe and burnishing, leave it be after that, and stand back and look at your results…….I do this all the time especially on older postwar engines I’ve blended out colors with amazing results…..

it has been about 6 weeks since I painted it. Will it work after so long or am I better off getting some matte clear coat to blend it all together?

I have tried it, not sure if it is working because the paint is now 6 weeks old, should I use matte clear coat?

Hmm,…I’d have to see it to make a recommendation, …..not sure I’d advise top coating, as you’d need it scuffed for a top coat to stick,….and further compounding the issue, is what is the smoke oil going to do to any top coat?…I’ve applied top coats to factory Lionel finishes, but only after I’ve carefully scuffed every square inch…..burnishing didn’t help any at all?…..how about posting up a pic out in the daylight?…

This is with the ace hardware special brush under a light.

Yes, that is the only spot I fixed @harmonyards
Ok, let’s see if we can get to the bottom of this,…..so explain how you applied the touch up. Did you blot it on with a brush, or q-tip ?….and, what was the rust oleum product that you used?…was it a spray can, or just a can with a lid?..
Pat
Paint brush and a cup, rust oleum spray can that I filled into a cup. brushed it carefully on
There is not going to be a simple fix to blend that spot. Trying to brush on a repair can be difficult. I’d say beings where that spot is, just leave it alone…..you’re liable to make a bigger mess trying to hide it …….it is in an inconspicuous spot fortunately….if it really bothers you, I can be reached via profile and I can hide that spot for you…..

I am okay with the spot, most likely a deep smoke fluid stain but it is fine, as far as I know, it could have been there when I bought it. Maybe in the future I will consider it and I will begin construction of my layout soon, transformers are scarce.
