Recently my remote started to shut off quite often. I replaced the batteries and placed some foam in the battery compartment thinking maybe it was loosing power. That did not seem to fix it. It was version 3.1 but I just upgraded it to version 4.2 tonight and I still have the same problem. Almost every time I hit the bell button it will shut off. The only times I have had it shut off, I was either pressing the bell button, or I was pressing the horn/whistle button. Any chance there is a fix for this?

In the set up section, what do you have the remote set for to auto power off?
Have you checked this?
Greg
I have checked, cant remember the setting, but if I power it up and then hit the bell button it will turn off right there. What usually happens is I forget and hit the bell button, the bell will come on but the remote shuts down, then I power the remote back up and try to turn the bell off, but every time I hit the bell button it turns the remote off, usually after about 4 or 5 tries I can get the bell to shut off. Then I just try to remember not to touch the bell button. Most of the time I can use the horn button without it shutting down, only shuts down maybe 1 out of 10 times I hit the horn button. But if I were to hit the bell button 10 times, I would say at least 8 times it would shut down.
Justin,
This is really a reach but what the heck. One of my remotes was shutting down a lot too when guests would push this button of that button. I could make it happen too. I found that the remote's door was not holding the batteries in tight enough and one or more would "move" just enough to break the connection and it would shut down.
I did the standard fix of adding padding. Even so I found that I have to keep pressure on the door most of the time, which is easy to do.

Thanks Walt,
I hope that is my problem. Seems it could be. When I do get the remote to stay on after pressing the horn button I am always holding the battery door tightly closed. I was not sure if it was just luck or not. I will have to do some more experimenting tonight.
I had the same problem and I didn't think the batteries was the problem until I used a piece of a business card or thin plastic across the batteries to keep the original foam on the door from compressing around the batteries. No more problems with the 3 remotes of mine shutting off on me.
Thanks guys, I did a test with taping the door shut as tight as it would go and it no longer shuts off. I am surprised all the foam I put in there did not hold the batteries in place. I will give the business card trick a try so I can get rid of the tape.
Same problem with mine, Justin. The foam, even squished, does not give enough pressure to keep the batteries in place. Use something like the cardboard from the back of a note pad or the thin plastic that Joe recommends. If I set the remote down on the table too hard, it will also cut out. I can turn it back on immediately, and all is well, it just keys the mental note once again to set it down gently.
