Here's an issue I figured would come up on my layout someday. I have many Atlas O turnouts on my layout, including some from the very first run. I knew people had problems with the internal connections between the center rail and the casting which serves as the center rail where the diverging route splits from the mainline. Never had any problems until the past few days when one of them apparently failed. Although I came up with a temporary fix (jamming a hookup wire between the casting and center rail), in the past, I did speak to a fellow user of Atlas turnouts who said the problem is pretty easy to fix. Unfortunately, I cannot recall who he was! As I recall, it consists of drilling into the casting (which can't be soldered in my experience) and then screwing in a self tapping screw and looping a feeder wire around it. Has anyone used this technique and if so provide some pointers. And if not, does any one out there have a method of repairing this?
Thanks to anyone who can help. A photo of the casting is below for anyone who is not clear about what I'm asking.
