Can anyone suggest a source for a replacement telescoping antenna for the "K-Line by Lionel" hand-held Remote Control device? The antenna is easily bent or broken when others use it at a train show for hands-on fun with the accompanying action dump cars. K-Line by Lionel is now defunct. Williams by Bachmann picked up this product line, but it does not supply the antenna as a "part." They'll gladly sell me a new unit for $60, but that's an expensive way to get a replacement antenna that probably costs $5 or so. Thanks in advance for "listening" and responding.

You'll need to remove it to determine the mounting and connection style. Then measure the closed length and extended length.

Now you can search for a replacement.

The frequency that the antenna is designed for will also be a factor.

Here's a site I found searching. Many mounting types for different frequencies.

I am only assuming that it would be a low frequency AM signal. 455Khz like TMCC.

here's a whole unit for $24

If your LHS has an R/C (cars, airplanes, and/or boats) section, there's an excellent chance they'll have what you're looking for.  Just be sure to take the remote in with you...and any remnant of the old antenna.  This is among many of the 'disaster relief' parts a good R/C department will stock.  In fact...as we (Trains Dept./LHS) like to kid them...the majority of their business is based on disasters...a 'natural' part of their hobby!  (e.g., R/C airplanes=lawn darts)

Thanks for a prompt reply and helpful advice.  In the yellow pages I found three RC-oriented hobby shops in nearby Little Rock, AR, so I'll start searching there.  I removed the antenna from the "K-Line by Lionel" RC device. It's about 11 inches long, with 3 inches anchored inside the body shell of the device.  It's similar to the antenna of Lionel's CAB-1, but the K-Line antenna is smaller in diameter and shorter in length.

Thanjks for a prompt reply and the helpful info. I removed the antenna from the "K=Line by Lionel" RC device. It has a male tongue base, which is attached to a post with a connecting wire. The antenna is about 11 inches long, with 3 inches anchored inside the RC device. It's similar to the antenna of the Lionel's CAB-1, but the K-Line antenna is smaller in diameter and shorter in length.

Thanks for a prompt response and the helpful tip to explore Radio Shack.  I removed the broken-off antenna from the "K-Line by Lionel" RC device, and I'll take it (along with another fully functional K-Line device) to the local RS store.  The antenna is similar to the antenna for Lionel's CAB-1 device, except that the K-Line antenna is smaller in diameter and shorter in length.

With appreciation,

Thanks for a prompt reply and a practical tip.  I've dealt with the guys at that store on several occasions, and my experience was positive and consistent with yours! I didn't know they have a stockpile of K-Line parts; hopefully, the one I'm seeking!

All the best,

Mike

Thanks for the tip. At the suggestion of another responder to my OGR FORUM note, I visited the local Radio Shack store. They did not have an exact replacement in stock, but they provided a near-identical antenna with the correct base, approp. diameter of the mast, but 2-1/2 times the length of the original.  That's an easy "problem" to fix -- I won't extend the telescoping antenna to its full extension.

All the best,

What a concept!  I could take the RC device to a train show, extend the antenna to its full length, and cause chaos on layouts across the hall by triggering mysterious actions. Then blame it on radical terrorists posing as model railroaders engaged in a nefarious plot to disrupt the good of the order.

Wait ... could the OGR Forum infiltrated by terrorists?  Never mind ...
