Are you using speed ball ink?

The ink I previously used was a little unmarked vial from Joe Mania, but I was planning on getting the Speedball from Olsen's yes.

I have never had any problems with either the stamps or the ink which I got from Joe Mania at JLM Trains. I have probably done 40 - 50 pre-war pieces.

 

I do spread the ink on glass as Joe's instructions describe.

 

What has been your difficulty using Joe's stamps and inks?

I only use the speed ball ink. Put a dab on a morror or glass then drag a straight razor over it until you just have a thin layer. Blot your stamp on the ink. Dont roll the stamp from side to side. The stamp must sit flat. Get you an old train body and practice on ot first. Sometimes I ink the stamp and then stamp it a time or two until I get the consistancy of my ink correct. You need just the right amount of ink on the stamp when you stamp it. To much and youll be left with rough edges to little and you'll see thru it.

Using the glass method, it was incredibly difficult for me to find that perfect middle ground. I just wanted to be sure there was no other easier method like using a pad of ink.
