I'm redoing the rubber stamp on my 681 restoration as the stamp I used had the numbers way too spaced out and it proved to be too much of an eyesore. My question is a two-parter:

1. Does anyone know of a source for Lionel rubber stamps other than Joe Mania? I know Olsen's sells them too but on their website the picture of the stamp has the numbers spaced out as well. I have yet to call and confirm this. Original 681 stamps had the numbers almost touching.

2. I could never figure out how to ink the stamp just right. Has anyone ever used a method other than the suggested practice of spreading the ink on glass? This was always extremely difficult for me.

I only use the speed ball ink. Put a dab on a morror or glass then drag a straight razor over it until you just have a thin layer. Blot your stamp on the ink. Dont roll the stamp from side to side. The stamp must sit flat. Get you an old train body and practice on ot first. Sometimes I ink the stamp and then stamp it a time or two until I get the consistancy of my ink correct. You need just the right amount of ink on the stamp when you stamp it. To much and youll be left with rough edges to little and you'll see thru it.

Using the glass method, it was incredibly difficult for me to find that perfect middle ground. I just wanted to be sure there was no other easier method like using a pad of ink.
