Well, I finally opened up my scale, original Polar Express Heavyweight cars after, what 15 years?  Well, I paid the price for long term storage.  The green windows are fogged on over half of the windows.  Has anyone ever posted info on how to replace the windows in these cars?  Thoughts on Lionel parts versus some substitute?  I would prefer to have the cars reflect the movie with clear windows instead of the green things.

The video below does not do "justice" to how bad these windows really look.  A easy comparison is the brand new Hobo car with the clear windows, unfogged.

Thanks for any help.

Merry Christmas!

FEET,

I had this video from a couple years ago.  It shows the replacement of light bulbs in a Lionel Heavyweight Passenger Car and shows the disassembly of the car.  I used this to disassemble a heavyweight baggage car and the process was almost identical.  However my baggage car had two of the rotating latches found under the first bottom cover that was removed.  Loosening the vestibules is a must to get the interior out.  Hope this helps.

Thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS .

Lionel sells replacement ones pretty cheap.  I order the ones for George Washington set as the green is a very light tint as compared to the darker green.  I have replaced my entire George Washington set and also several of the ones in the ATSF scout set.  The scout set didn’t have windows issues with junk on them, I just thought the dark green tint was horrible.  Replacing a whole set of cars is an hour or so project and they come with sticky backs.   Part number in the picture. 4DDB7BBA-1C30-4211-BF14-9FFCD10B7400
