A few years back, Island Model Works produced the BMT D-Type for me, with excellent input from Joe Frank and Steve Davis. To see how it looks painted and running, just go to you tube and find O-Scale Carls video. Tried to get enough interest in an IRT MUDC, but fell short, no doubt on account of how long ago they ran.
I am now trying to gauge interest in doing either a shell or a body with trucks, underbody, etc of either of the above noted cars. MTH did a so called R42, but it was their first venture into rapid transit and it is more toy like.
In all likelihood, I would lean towards doing the R40 modified for these reasons:
1. We have a slant R40 already produced by MTH. Right off the bat, with the exception of the cab front end of the car, the Slant R40 and the R40M are identical. It would be much easier for the producer to immediately work up a matching size and can quickly refer for accuracy to the MTH cars. The second reason: with the sculpted fillet running along (approx. scale waist length high) the cars sides, I believe that it adds more flare and style than the R42, but I am open to doing either one, as long as we get the required reserve number to get the project running.
Sincerely, Mike
