One of the iconic train stations in the Pacific Northwest, King Street Station has been restored.  It was an extensive renovation,  The last time I was in there, it was depressing, to say the least.  The false ceiling had covered up the upper ceiling area. The Seattle PI has a nice set of pictures of the station. Amtrak still uses the station, anyone visiting the area with some time would enjoy the trip from Seattle to Portland, which has some great views of Puget Sound along its shores.

Hi Don,  You are correct, there is another train station across the street, Union Station, that served the Milwaukee Road and Union Pacific.  The property has been restored as well.  The amazing Paul Allen, also developed an office complex next door, which is across the street from both King Street Station and the Seahawks football stadium.  THe main hall is available for events, like weddings, etc, but I am not 100% sure if its open to the general public.

Thanks for sharing!  It is great to see this one restored.  I took the Empire Builder to King St. Station in the late 1970s.  Seattle is a beautiful city where I hope to visit again and will be sure to take the train!  Thanks also for the link to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer article.  In reading the article, they put enough steel in the building to make a 20 story high rise to protect it from damage by earthquakes.

Thanks for posting the News on the King Street Station.

It's nice to see it back it to it's original splendor.

My first train ride  back in 1957 began at the King Street Station.

Rode the GN Empire Builder from Seattle to a small town/station

in Minnesota and back again.

My last train trip to & from Seattle & King Street Station,  was over

a Christmas Break while I was away in college during the 70's.

That was after they "modernized" the station.
