I was flipping through an old RMC, picked up as a freebie in a show, and there was an article on a prototype New York State shortline that served a papermill.  The magazine was going to use it as a model for a layout to be presented in its pages over several months.  The article discussed a "Short Line Association", a few of who belonged to it, some not small, and others that did not bother.  I just wondered if such an association and list of its members is still current, existing, and available today?  Seems to me like there are a lot fewer short lines out there, but maybe they are keeping a low profile.

Several short lines have been bought up by management companies and seem to be thriving. On company, Anacostia, owns Pacific Harbor Line (Formerly Harbor Belt Line owned jointly by Pacific Electric, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, and [AT] Santa Fe). After UP merged SP (which owned 50% after PE went away), UP and ATSF decided to sell off the interchange line to Anacostia. Anacostia is at http://www.anacostia.com.

Another short-line owner is Genesee & Wyoming. They also own several short lines including the Arizona and California. They're at https://www.gwrr.com.

Hope this helps some.
