Heritage unit 8099 released from the paint booth today via NS's Facebook page.  Notice they included the check code as requested by yours truly!!

Gosh this is one beautiful locomotive!  Also note: Former NW SD45 1776 is finished now too! (behind the 8099).

How about this version of the same photo...

Nope!

Sorry...

After the photo's taken, the units will be rolled back into the shop and repainted back to NS!

Now THAT is a heck of an idea, Rusty!  That would sure save all the wear & tear on that fancy paint job.

We can only hope, you know its sad that so many great engines went to the scrappers, I know all of them could not be saved...still a shame.  Anyway at VMT there sits the "J".  The last of her class to survive.....waiting...patiently.  I truely think she will feel steam in her cylinders again one day.  I think she would look pretty darn good as the power for NS's executive train, and others...

Norfolk Southern has a significant presence on the tracks in and around my area and, before the merger, Southern was one of the two or three most seen roadnames so I guess I'll have a chance to see some of the Heritage locomotives. Does anyone know if certain of the locomotives will be assigned to certain areas or will it just be sort of random, based on where the engine is needed at a given time? I'll surely be watching but I was just wondering if anyone knew if there was any sort of plan for how they would be used. It would be interesting to see an NKP engine down here.
