FYI,

Walkersville Southern Railroad, just outside of Frederick, MD will be running STEAM the next three weekends, starting this weekend. Lehigh Valley Coal #126, an 0-6-0T will be running over the next three weekends, including Memorial Day Monday.

Walkersville is within one hour of Washington DC and Baltimore and outside of the 611, this appears to be the ONLY steam in the DC/Baltimore area this year as the B&O Museum and WMSR appear to not be running steam this year.

Trains run at 11, 1, and 3 on Saturday and Sunday and Memorial Day Monday. Special rail fan photo trips are also planned. See www.wsrr.org for info and schedule.

The railfan specials, at $20 a ticket are a real bargain, I have attended 2 of these, Flagg#75 in 2012, and LVC#126 in 2014. They roll at 5pm and cover about all the active trackage.
Travel hint: access via Biggs Ford RD. from US15 north or south, and this road will put you right at the station.
The girder bridge over Tuscarora Creek was redone last year, and from there through the Monocacy Blvd. construction project the WSRR now has heavy rail and high ballast.
There are now ample eating/drinking establishments on the north side of Frederick to satisfy families or singles.
