Was watching a few items this week on the Bay and one was a NIB Premiere Santa Fe Alco PB by MTH. These are very nice scale models and this one sold with about 5 bidders for a 'whopping' $31. That's really strange that it didn't go higher with multiple bidders. I don't have the AA's any longer but for that money I should have splurged....

What a deal! Was it Protosound or PS 2?
It was the B unit which is essentially a dummy in most cases. Early on (1990s) in the first issue of these, MTH did produce some powered B units but you would have to add command if running with modern engines.
Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. I got busted low on a couple of times on no reserve items that I was certain would bring good money. How about a MTH Premier UP Flag Baggage Car NIB that only brought $35 with free shipping? Basically gave it away. And yes, it was here first on the OGR Forum with zero offers.

Well, that's one.....

Ouch!!! Talk about timing... a year or so ago, you'd have had no problem selling that puppy for premium money. Then Lionel announces their version of the UP Flag Baggage Car amidst the fan-fare of their new passenger cars, and folks are drooling over themselves for no reason (other than the door is painted). So now the MTH versions are worthless? A fickle hobby, indeed.

Actually it was about 1 1/2 - 2 years ago. They were going for good money and that is what tempted me to sell it.
There are certain times where stuff goes cheap. I'm not always sure of the exact reasons. Spring time? Everyone's broke? Etc.
Then there's times where everything is gold, like near Christmas.
If you watch closely for long periods, you can see the prices skyrocket or fall below reason.
My daughter recently found a MTH Z4000 transformer at a Good Will store for $75.00. The box was in bad shape all taped up, but the transformer works just fine.
IMHO, prices are generally the softest during the summer, and climb in the fall. We've had a few mornings with the temperature in the 50's and one in the 40's. So I expect the interest in trains and prices realized to climb a bit. But I think there will still be plenty of bargains.
It's a great time to be in the market to buy trains, especially if you don't need or want all the latest features.
