I like Lionel's exploration of different licenses such as DC comics and the horror movies.  Each will resonate with a certain segment of buyers.  I'd like to see box cars with classic advertisements of firearms (Remington, Colt, etc), phonograph and radio manufacturers, vintage cars, etc.

I'd really like a series of Star Wars cars - one for each film and animated series, and if they sold well, they could expand to do cars for each of the heroes, Jedi and Sith.  With Lionel's rekindled relationship with Disney, I would imagine that it is possible, as would a series of Marvel Cinematic Universe cars (again one for each film and TV series).

I'd also go for a series of classic Trek cars - one for each of the TV series (OS, TAS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager) and original cast films and maybe one for each of the original characters (Kirk, Spock, Bones, Uhura, Scotty, Chekov and Sulu).  I probably wouldn't buy character cars from the later series (unless we are talking Klingons - I'd buy any respectful Klingon car they might care to make).

Other SF series could also be represented, as I'd buy cars for Farscape, Babylon 5 and The Walking Dead.

In another direction, I'd also be interested in cars done for historical heroes like Alvin York, Audie Murphy and Pappy Boyington, but these would be a hard sell at best.  Perhaps a "warbirds" series of historical aircraft instead...

How about some My Little Pony cars along the lines of the Toys R Us Geoffrey Giraffe cars?  Lionel could mold the telltale fingers in rainbow colors, and the ponies could duck their heads under the "rainbow shower"...

I think it would be shrewd to go with early age cartoon characters.  Any train manufacturer that forms a positive brand impression with young kids has a high likelihood of converting the child to a lifelong adult customer.  My daughter who is not so much into trains now would have loved a "My Little Pony" themed set when she was 5.  She would totally go for "Adventure Time" themed cars now.  Lionel would be smart to license characters from any of the shows on "Cartoon Network" tv channel.

If they ever do Star Wars, I'm in deep trouble...

While I'm well aware of the Disney buying of Star Wars, it had not occurred to me the possible impact on someday seeing Star Wars related trains.  Would be nice.

Of course, I'd even settle for them someday doing a Disney engine to go with all the rolling stock they've made, since the last engine (non-starter set) was the 18311 EP-5 from probably ~ 1992-1994 (I forget the exact catalog that was in).

Andy,

The Black Sheep box car with Pappy's real picture at the controls, with his Medal of Honor shown on the plane, and Conrads picture from the series on the other, would be fantastic!  Baw Baw Black Sheep!  Although Murph was a big O Gauge fan, when the Railroads wanted to pay tribute to him, he ask them to paint a big American Flag on the Engine and run it often.  Murph told the Railroad to honor all the GI's, not just him alone.  UP still runs his Engines even today!  That Engine is still available in O Gauge today also.

If it's going to sell it has to be something with widespread appeal. I don't like any of those special-issue items myself. I like model trains that emulate real trains.

How about a plain boxcar with a variety of different printed labels that can be applied by the purchaser? Like a billboard that changes periodically.

Yes Star Wars.

I would like some more in universe style cars like a Jawa Trade Union car or Rebel Alliance Supply cars.

I would also like to see some Transformers cars. A boxcar or tanker full of energon would be great.

Here are Blaster and Bumblebee helping Amtrak.

that would be totally awesome.  I would like a series of flat cars that carry the green Constructicon vehicles

STAR TREK... We buy anything with STAR TREK on it.  Of course the TOS and not the JJ Abrams, light flare universe.  There is an HO train out already but...

Of course, I'll also need a 1:48 scale original Enterprise to go with that set. About 20 feet long. Diecast. Lighted. Less than $500. (Hey, it's science fiction, so I can dream unrealistically if I choose to.)

I'd like to see NFL boxcars.
