Well, I have handled and 2 railed some Sunset brass single-sheathed boxcars.  They seem really "strange" to me----more like a caricature than a model.

They seem like a casting----big and clunky, no underbody detail----I had to build bolsters---and those crappy crumbling trucks and couplers!

All I can ask is  "WHY?"  Why were they built in this manner?  I just saw one on ebay for $75 and I would certainly never pay more than that for one.  Looks like the goose laid a brass egg on THIS model.  It hit a low mark, in MY opinion.  ---SALTY RAILS---

That era of Sunset freight cars appear to be for made the crossover market of 3R and 2R.

Sad, because it wouldn't have taken much more cost or effort to do it right a la the Lionel 27xxx scale detail 3 rail cars.

There are still some glaring gaps in the steam era freight car market such as 1924 ARA single sheathed cars, Southern SU box cars and of course UTLX X3 tankers.

Hope springs eternal!
