It's #SwitcherSaturday time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

Did you miss last week? If so, take a peek here to check out the action!

Today at the Murnane house we have my MTH Railking NYC 0-8-0 #9000 steam switcher on duty moving a boxcar around my itsy-bitsy-small table layout.

MTH RailKing 30-1255-1

I picked this switcher up at a small shop in Maryland called "The Toy Exchange" for a bargain early this year, it was apparently a "production sample" and it had no box, just the styrofoam case with information like the below written on it by a sharpie type of marker.  Note the website says it should have PS2 but it doesn't because it was a "production sample" (or at least that is what the guy told me at the shop).  Anyway, it's a really solid steamer and it smokes more than  Arnold Schwarzenegger with a cigar.

Please enjoy your weekend, have a great 4th of July, and if you get a chance post some pictures/videos/stories of your favorite switchers!

Best...Rich Murnane

p.s. Miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

The Jersey Central rostered five ALCo S-2 units numbered 1067-1071. Here we see the 1069 adding a caboose to the hind end of a freight which will be departing shortly. Note the 1069 now wears the version of the Statue of Liberty herald with "Central Railroad Company of New Jersey" lettering, indicating the locomotive is in the twilight years of its career.

Yay! SWSat is off to a great start this week!

Nice PLE steamer Rich I only hear nice things about the  MTH version of that engine. CNJ3676/Bob that is a great looking engine. Tom I'm interested in following your progress on that engine.

This week I am posting some pics of a trip I made last week with my girls, my sister and her kids to Alliare State Park in Freehold NJ. Home of the NJ Museum of Transportation  and thier Pine Creek Railroad. It is a loop of 36" track and some 4'8" track in the yard. They have very nice facilities and some great relocated and restored structures. Most of the collection is out of public view except for one weekend in September.

First up a little Porter 0-4-0 stuffed and mounted. imageimage

This standard Gauge CNJ caboose was retrucked narrow gauge and was originally rebuilt from an 1880's era boxcar.

R. Tucker, the Mayor of Tucker Town, and his family drove out to the Tucker East Yard in their Tucker to check out the town's shipment of fireworks as a fast mail passes buy.  The Mayor's brother, J. Tucker, the Mayor of Tuckerville, got the Pennsy to transfer the fully loaded boxcar to Tucker Town using a Pennsy 44 Tonner.

Unfortunately, after the mayor left the boxcar exploded leaving most of Tucker East Yard in ruins.  Fortunately, no one was hurt but everyone in Tucker Town had to go to Tuckerville to see any fireworks, making Tuckerville's merchants very happy.  Needless to say, R. Tucker never trusted J. Tucker gain.

PS.  The 44 Tonner was re-railed and sent on its way before the explosion.

I've been to Pine Creek many a time. It seems the guys down there practically live and breath Alliare State park. I mean steam hasn't operated there in some time and for me the only reason I go there is for the free coal and the Raritan River #7 caboose. These guys even tried to buy the Milltown freight depot a few years back...

Good morning and happy Independence Day Weekend fellow SwSat friends!

Fabulous photos and information as you guys teach me so much on this thread!!  I'm off, in a few moments,  to play some gigs in NC so here is a re-post of photos from Patsburg's Free State Junction Railway.... a B&O Docksider switching military equipment.  I weathered the docksider.  It was my first attempt at weathering a loco.   Be safe, and enjoy your weekend!IMG_0814IMG_0820IMG_0824IMG_0838-2

I'm not seeing the pics Dave, I thought it was because I was on a slower internet connection this weekend than normal (in-laws house has sslllooowwww connections), but I guess it's not just me here.

To Dave and everyone else, thanks again for coming out and playing yesterday, this is really a lot of fun each week for me, best to all...Rich
