On Photobucket:

  1. select image
  2. copy URL from "Direct" field in the "Share This Photo" menu on the right

On OGR:

  1. select "Insert/edit image" icon from menu bar
  2. paste URL in the "Source" field
  3. click on "Image description" field - this sets the "Dimensions" field, no entry required
  4. click OK

Post your reply when finished composing. The URL in the browser address bar is for the HTML page displaying the image, not the address for the actual JPG image. The "Direct" field contains the correct URL.

Quick and easy....  go to your hosting site (photobucket for instance).  Find the picture you want to post here on the forum.  Right click the picture and click on "copy image location".  Come back to your post on the forum and click on the "insert/edit image" in the menu bar above.  Left click on the "source" and paste the location you copied....then click on the "OK"...  Your picture will be displayed!!

Here's the URL for the photo. As you can see, posting it simply provides a link and does not display the photo. I never pasted a photo link with the old software, so I don't know what it did, but now it simply displays the URL, not the photo.

That is the URL you get when you click on the DIRECT menu option on Photobucket.

This is what you should see when you click DIRECT. The word COPIED in yellow only appears for a moment.

When you click on INSERT/EDIT IMAGE on OGR, you get this window:

pb3

When you paste the URL in the SOURCE file and click in the IMAGE DESCRIPTION field, you get this. Note the DIMENSIONS field is filled.

When you click OK, you get the image in your post like this:

But those are not from Photobucket, are they? Photobucket seems to be different than other photo hosting sites in that you don't get a URL to the photo. Even selecting the View Image option gives you this URL:

http://s667.photobucket.com/us...a/Paulstank.jpg.html

Note the HTML at the end. The only way I've found to get a URL to the actual photo is by clicking the DIRECT button as I showed in my post above. I don't know why Bob can't get it to work for him. Maybe if after he selects DIRECT, he can simply post the URL he copied so we can see what got copied.

NOTE: I had trouble if I didn't click in the IMAGE DESCRIPTION field because OGR doesn't seem to like photos that are too big. Clicking the field sets the DIMENSIONS field and appears to shrink the image so OGR will accept it. The same was true when I tried Adding Attachments and my photos were too big. Once I used Picasa or FastStone Image Viewer to shrink them, they posted fine.

Guys....posting photos here is easy.  If you are hosting your photos on Photobucket or most other photo hosting sites, it simply does not take any more steps than what I said a few posts above.  I am posting from my desktop PC and haven't tried on my mobile devices yet so it may be somewhat different in those cases.

Alan

Sorry, Alan, but from what I can tell, Photobucket doesn't give you a link to the JPG image unless you go through the DIRECT option I mentioned. If you just copy the URL in the address bar (or use any other method other than DIRECT to get a URL), you get a link with HTML at the end and it simply doesn't work to Insert the image here. I can Insert images all day long from other sites, but Photobucket seems to be different in the way they do things. Go to Bob's Photobucket page and try to Insert one of his photos to see for yourself.

NOTE:

  1. quote my post with just the photo of the tank car.
  2. right click and select Inspect Element.
  3. use the Find field in the upper right with "photo" to locate the Photobucket link.
  4. note mine ends with JPG.
  5. now do the same with Bob's post with the "X" box.
  6. note his link includes 2 URLs, one ending with HTML and it is the one enclosed with the URL tags. The other is enclosed by IMG tags and seems to indicate he didn't use DIRECT to copy the correct link, but I don't know that for sure.

Even if Daz' method worked, it is still about three times the steps as before, when all I had to do was "paste" the URL.

Also, the reason there are three posts here is that my edit button doesn't work.  I can edit, but when I push the little blue

Bob, check out my last post. I just did a Ctrl-V to paste the last image in the post just like you said it used to work. Make sure you have a URL that ends with jpg, not html. Like I said, that DID NOT WORK when I tried it earlier in the post where you see the jpg URL for the tank car photo.

Dave, Allen, and all - thanks for attempting to help me.  I think the problem is the iPad.  There is no "right click -left click" on an iPad.  And when I go to the enlarged photo on Photobucket, there is only one option.  There used to be four, but Photobucket has changed dramatically within the last year or so, and is no longer very iPad- friendly.

The other problem I was having last night is that I could edit my posts, but then the little blue "Update now" button would not work.  I have tried none of that this AM, except to look all over Photobucket for the "direct" link.

For what it is worth, the format is just fine with me - it is puzzling that things that used to work on the iPad no longer work when the intent was to make iPad participation easier.  I no longer have to double- click everything, which is nice.

Dave, you can copy the URL the same way in IE or Edge, so I don't see why the method doesn't work.  Whatever works for you...

John, as I showed in my last post the method does work using the Copy option in Edge/IE. I was trying to help Bob get the URL on his iPad which either doesn't have the option or I don't know where it is in whatever he's using to view his images on Photobucket. For whatever reason, he appears to be copying the URL that has HTML at the end and that is the wrong URL. If you look closely at the photos I posted, you'll see that the address bar contains an address ending with ".jpg.html". If you go to almost any other photo hosting site, the address bar will contain a link ending with ".jpg", the link to the actual image. And that may be the way Photobucket used to work too before they made all their changes.

Bob, did you see/use the DIRECT button I mentioned? Didn't clicking on DIRECT copy the URL, even on the iPad?

No, Dave.  There is no longer a "direct" button on the enlarged Photobucket presentation.  There were four options a while ago, but now there is only the one.

Photobucket and Outlook have both made changes that baffle me.  The Photobucket thumbnails are now covered with options that I have no use for, and they make the thumbnails lots less useful.  Outlook concatenates my e-mails so I cannot find things when I need to - they get buried behind my responses.

My photobucket photos still get posted on other forums, just not here.

Many thanks for trying to help.

Bob , I haven't given up, but rather than continue posting in this thread, I posted a note to your Wall. FWIW, I used Chrome on my phone to look at Photobucket and saw what you mean about the options, but was able to get the correct URL to post here using the "Insert/edit image" option. Hopefully my post will help resolve this for you.

I can't view posted videos in full screen.  If I go to u-tube full screen works fine.  I have tried both chrome & Firefox.

This has nothing to do with the forum upgrade. This is a YouTube thing. This has been happening for a long time...long before this upgrade.

Correct, I noticed this well before the upgrade, the only way to go full screen was to first go to YouTube.  It's not only here, but anywhere they allow YouTube links.

Thanks Dave.  I did not know I even had a "wall".  I got the button to work, and it gave me five options, none of which was "direct".  Most were ways of buying stuff printed on canvas, etc.

I shall, for now, give up.  I think i have bored enough folks with repetitions of early cab forwards anyway.  I have other places to post photos.

I suspect these are teething problems - my touch-screen is wtill working about 3/4 of the time, and I have been able to do only one "edit".  If one cannot edit, one needs to be more careful, which is not a bad idea from the get-go.

I think this question may have been alluded to at least once but; Is there anyway to indicate who the original poster is that starts a subject, if they don't have an avatar?  If not, could that feature be added?

Any answer to this yet?

Not yet...

I suggested earlier to make an avatar file with nothing but their forum name.  If nothing else it would accomplish the goal until Hoopla fixes it.  While not a picture of ones self like in the TOS, at least it could provide the thread starter.
