He must be one busy guy. Fixing stuff, custom builds, and now the layout. Makes me look bad for never building a layout!
Alex,
I suggest you have your daughter's boyfriend lift the house up so you can get a new subfloor in. Then while he pushes the walls out another 18" you can expand the layout. Remember, the guy who built the last one expects this to be great !!
Alex,
Wow...I loved the videos of your last layout, but am looking forward to seeing what this next one will look like. Enjoy the build!
Hello everyone,
It might not look like to much has been done, but lighting has been relocated,Ceiling tiles repaired , floor has been scraped, all the walls have been repaired and painted with the first coat. The Second coat will be a bit darker, this weekend i will patch any holes in the cement floor and we will epoxy the layout room floor. After that the bench work will be started.
Thanks for looking,
Alex
Sure looks like progress to me Alex! Looking good.
Sounds like a plan. Thanks for the photos.
Hi Alex M
Looks great, do you have any video to share?
Alex, will it be done by August
Darn you work fast, lots of progress so far.
Alex,
So much for the visit. I guess you both will need to sign my copy of OGR
Kevin
Wow you are cruising. Its looking great.
Is this the wall that will be made into a secret passage to the hidden train vault?!
and a whole new world begins .... looking good Alex
Looks like it's coming along pretty well. Looks a lot different than the pictures from less than two weeks ago! I'm presuming you can't spend full time on this either, must put some food on the table.
A clean slate is so exciting.
That is one serious project. Looking nice. The wall color is a good choice.
Alex,
Its looking good. Enjoy the build.

Dang Alex you do make the rest of us look bad with the progress you're making. Back in January, I too came to the decision I needed to rebuild from scratch. As yet I haven't overcome the apprehension of starting the demolition.
All I will say is good for you.Your new layout will be better then the last one and you will enjoy a huge dose of new gratification. What could be better?(I know thats a dangerous question)Good luck.Nick
Great progress!
Peter
Did the landlord raise the rent?
Looking forward to the new layout Alex! Then you can get back to doing what you do best, tips.....upgrades...repairs...scratchbuilding........
U DA MAN!!!! Keep on keepin on.
Eliot, that video was the best, love it !!!!!! I was so small in this video, i think i weighed 167lbs now I'm 191. LOL !!!!!!
Gary, no video's yet. Soon
Bill, the bench work and track will be done, and trains will be running. Most likely no scenery.
We will have our open house in August!!!!!!
Dave, This work comes easy to me, i was a carpenter for many many years.
Kevin, Come to my open house in August, and you will see the new basement and layout!!!
John, I wish i had a secret vault, to keep trains. LOL
John, what you see in the picture was done in 4 days, most of my time is being spent on
build ups and engine repairs, with exercising between that.
Matthew, the best thing to do is just rip out one little part of your layout and then you will get into a grove, before you know it the layout will be gone.
Mike R , the bench you see in the photos was my old workshop bench. The new bench work will go right over that, the reason I'm going over it is I would need a wrecking ball to knock the work bench DOWN!. Plus i want the new bench work higher.
Ben, yes 15 percent, pins and needles!!!!!!
Rick0, I'm still doing build ups, and engine repairs, the layout progress is being done occasionally.
I thank you all for the great comment's, questions, and interest.
Alex

With all that work on the room, why waste time with additional exercise?
Alex,
At 1st I thought you must have had a complete mental break down, I remember dismantling my nice size layout, which was not any where near as large as yours was, and I actually was stunned that you started a massive re-engineering project.
Looks like you have it well in hand however, trying to keep the investment down to a roar is going to be a challenge today. I am definitely looking forward to seeing your new engineering ideas take shape.
Have fun and be careful building.
Alex keep posting the pictures as you build, I love seeing them.
PCRR/Dave
Jim Policastro, where did you find that GIANT sized dust pan? It's HUGE!!!!!
Rick
Great progress - it's looking great!!

Way to go Alex! Moving right along.
Alex, you bet I will- I still have not made my new track plan yet. Basement is 100% complete- lights, tile floor, full bath. a man cave that needs a new layout.
Using RR tracks software to do the design - not sure if it will be a "L" or a U or just one giant square with access points. Looking for ideas and recommendations.
Not sure which switched to use yet.
My plan, do the design, then put the requirements out as an RFP.
Making progress - keep up the good work.
It must be nice to be Young, as this is rapid progress! I look very much forward to seeing Your new Ideas in Motion. In a way, Building the Layout, doing Scenery, and of course Wiring, and Track Laying, is most of the Fun. Thanks for Keeping us Posted.
In your case, Happy Planning!
Alex,
What number Ross switches will you use and are you installing a turntable?
Kevin
