Hey Derek, I noticed someone else had asked if there would be a digital download of the book available for those of us who like to read on our iPads or Kindles????
Had you thought about this as another option to share your labor of love? These days,a lot of e-books sell very well, and it is another great option for you to consider.
I knew you would be successful with this project. It was a no brainer,a story that just had to be told, but doing it had to be quite a task. Congratulations !!!!!!-Kenny(Lionel For Less)
Derek
where do you sign up for pre order ? I don't see a link on you site
thanks
Bill, it was good to talk with you today and I'm happy we got your copied ordered.
Kenny,
Digital download of the book is a real possibility, but we need to get the physical copy finished first. My guess is it would be late 2016, maybe 2017 before a digital copy happened. We will see. Depends on the demand for the book.
Thanks,
Derek
Just as a quick heads up, as of this morning we have THREE dual signed copies left. I expect these to sell out today or tomorrow. If you're interested, better get moving!
Well regarding the previous posting, we are SOLD OUT of the dual signed copies! Thank you OGR Forum members!
Just ordered my basic version (will add a digital copy when if one becomes available).
Looking forward to it.
Peter
Just ordered the basic version. Having visited Madison Hardware on numerous occasions while on business trips to New York over the years, this will be a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Can't wait!
Congrats
George
Don't need the story, I lived it.
& soon to be....................
I wanted to post this morning to celebrate a little bit. The book is finished and has been sent to the printer as of yesterday. It has been a long process, but incredibly rewarding.
I hope to have a proof before the LCCA convention, but that is going to be a stretch. Everything still appears to be on track for an early October arrival.
Thanks again to everyone for their support. Looking forward to sharing more with you over the coming months.
Good news Derek! Looking forward to your book.

I know what I'm buying at York
Thx Derek
PS --- Looking forward to Notch 6 reports from KC
Congratulations on completion of the project. I'm looking forward to getting my copy when they become available for shipping. Can't wait to start reading it.
Now, what is your next book going to be about?

How to stop working on so many projects and enjoy being a Dad for awhile. Second little one is due in December and I'm just going to sit back an relax for awhile.
Congratulations again! I hope the new little one is healthy and happy! Enjoying kids while they are young is very important and you definitely need to enjoy them while you can. They will be grown and off to college before you know it.
Just ordered the $49.95 version the $79.95 is sold out
Just arrived home from the LCCA convention in Kansas City this evening. I had the pleasure of presenting on the book on Wednesday evening. The neat thing is that I live streamed the entire video presentation on Facebook. If you are a Facebook user, the video is available for you to view 24 hours a day and 365 days per year. You can find our Facebook page by Clicking Here . If you don't use Facebook you're sadly out of luck for the moment. Facebook does not allow me to direct link from other sites to the video.
A quick update on the book printing. The book is currently in production and we expect the first sample copies to arrive here around the end of the month. There has been a bit of slipping in the production schedule with the book now scheduled to arrive in the warehouse around the 12th to 16th of October. We will try our best to get some copies out before we leave for York on the 17th, but the big push for shipping might have to wait until we return from the show. Thanks all for your support of this project. The end is in sight!
Looking forward to it.
First post in the thread updated on 9/11/16 with additional shipping info, plus the video from the LCCA convention in Kansas City is now on Youtube and can be viewed here on the forum.
Derek:
Thanks for the update.

Ditto on the update. Looking forward to getting my copy. Hopefully before York.

I don't mean for this to sound rude or hostile, but your web site and video are confusing. The first three or so minutes of the video should be cut out. The clapping and number calling and whatever other gibberish made me think I had something wrong. Starting over and over was just frustrating. The web site with three different book pricing options, but I had to come back here and read through posts to find out prices involve signatures. Also, my cart is empty, but I don't see a simple button to click on your site to add a book to my cart. I'm sorry, but just too much hassle. Maybe I'll buy a copy at the LHS after the book comes out.

Sam, you're going HERE , right? Once there, left side, you have two options. You can click on the option and it tells you the difference.. (one signed, one not signed).
Then on the option you desire, click "add to cart"
I just did and it's working.
I will add my two cents and will probably get shouted down for it. For what it is worth, if it hadn't been to about 6 people who where dedicated to the hobby, the store in Detroit would not have lasted as long or been as successful as it was...

Sam,
Not taken as rude or hostile at all. If you would like me to call you, I would be happy to personally take your order and make sure everything is squared away correctly. If that would be ok, please email me your contact info at madisonhardwarebook@gmail.com and I will be happy to touch base with you.
Roving Sign,
Great photo! Would have loved to have had that about six months ago. It would have made a great addition to the book. It looks like the photo was taken in the mid to late 1970's, the 9718 Canadian National boxcar was produced in 1973 and 1974. Hope you don't mind that I add the photo to this post so everyone can see it.
No problem posting it - I was in a hurry - and wasn't that familiar with this forums functions yet (that was my first post here!) I actually visited your site as I was researching the photo - and had the feeling that I should have scanned this a bit sooner - but I've only had this photo since 2015 - and really 2016 until I was in a position to reconcile this stuff.
My uncle did train repairs for the Hobby House in Cleveland - and from his effects, seemed to have some relationship with Madison Hardware. He had a pile of Christmas Cards from the Madison crew.
I have more artifacts - some I have already sold - but they were stuff like catalogs that are not uncommon.
I'm still sorting though this stuff - so I'll scan and post as I come across it.
I made the trip to Madison a few times. A great field trip from Boston to Penn Station and then to Madison.
10/7/2016 - Good news, bad news. The good news in the book is almost here! The bad news is that it will not arrive in time for the TCA show in York, PA. The book will miss the show by less than a week. This Looks like we will still ship in late October. We had built almost a month of cushion into our timeline to make sure that this didn't happen. What you can't predict is a major shakeup with overseas shippers, this held the book up in port for almost two weeks.
If you are coming to York and were interested in a copy we will have a few incentives for you to order at the show and we will ship as soon as they arrive. We have four physical finished copies to show at York. You will be able to hold the book, flip through the pages, etc. You should have your books in your hands only a few weeks after the show and well before the Holidays.
As to York ordering incentives and activities. First, we will still be having our book signing at the TCA museum on Wednesday from 10 to 4. How do you sign books that are not physically there? We knew that this was a possibility about a month ago, so we had custom acid free book plates created for the book. I will be happy to sign / personalize these with your order. You take the book plate home with you and you can insert it in the book when it arrives.
Second, if you order from us at the show I will enter you into a drawing for one of our dual signed books. These SOLD OUT in a week and a half at the beginning of the summer. I saved one for myself and a couple for marketing purposes. So order at the show and get a chance to win a book that is one of fifty books! See the first post in the thread for photos of the book plates that come with the dual signed edition and upgraded author signed edition.
Thanks for the update Derek. See you at York.
Derek: Just to let you know , the display track came in, and in great shape. Thanks.. Bob
When will they ship, might have missed that - can't wait to get my limited edition.
Kevin
Hi Derek / I am also looking forward to receiving "The Madison Hardware Story". I lived the story at the Detroit / New York locations and I am going to learn more, just like we all do on your "Notch 6 Podcasts". Congrats
Gary

Hi Kevin,
Freight forwarder has told me to expect the book around the 25th. Dual signed editions will go out first. So maybe Halloween, or the first week of November. I'll post here if there are any further delays.
10/31/2016 - Big week this week. We have a shipping party planned for tomorrow (November 1st). We expect to pack and label all the preorders to this point. That means as long as I can fit all the books in my SUV we should be all caught up by Wednesday. We're ready to run full steam into the holiday season, and if your wife, kids, significant other has no idea what to get you for Christmas this year, this fits the bill! Thanks to all of you for your patience, I hope the end results are worth the wait.
From a thought to a reality.That's how it's done.
Enjoy the train season Derek, and enjoy yourself.
And keep it in Notch 6!!!!
Awesome, should get it before the 7th
