Hi is it at all possible to change a TMCC locomotive to run conventionally when its mother board is no longer working. Can you change wiring to take all TMCC actions and railsounds( take the computer boards away) so motor can still work as a conventional locomotive

I’m sure there are other threads. Assuming it’s a dc can motor, you could gut everything, ger a full wave bridge rectifier to turn track ac into dc for the motor and get it to run 1 direction only. To get forward and reverse you need an eunit either mechanical or circuit board type.
thanks for your reply sounds like it will stay up on the non working shelf. Appreciate your follow up
Any idea which board is bad? It may cost less to replace the bad board then get an electronic E unit. Lionel TMCC motherboards usually run about ten bucks.

Actually I do not know if the boards are bad or not but wires were melted at the jumper assemblies on a Wabash 700 6-18046 so I assume boards were hurt also. those jumpers are shown as not available on Lionel.com/support site
Its really not that hard to put electronic e unit in. No more shelf Queen.
where do I find an e unit? and then the full wave bridge rectifier to go from ac to dc
If using an electronic eunit with just FNR aka conventional you wont need a rectifier. Probably 40 to 50 bucks at a hobby shop. I'm sure others will chime in on where to buy and other things .
It is a can motor correct?
This engine has an AC motor. In fact the mechanism looks identical to a Post War baby Hudson, 2055 or 2046. You may be able to find a complete mechanism with a mechanical E unit for less than an electronic E unit.

Ok. There ya go. Sorry about the wrong information
