My friend is advising caution on my wish to re-wire my two mainlines independently and using TMCC. I have two mainlines, separated by a Ross #8 crossover. I now want to to use both sides of my Z4000. Running the trains between the two mainlines, I am thinking I probably have to run a wire from the TMCC  to the common on both sides of the transformer. Is this going to work? Also we will be adding a simple DCS to the mix, I am hoping it will connect like I am describing for the TMCC. Thanks.

Don't know so much about the Z4000. That being said I have a ZW-L, TMCC an my layout is blocked off similarly to yours. I have three loops that are all powered separately by handles on my ZW.

The beauty of the ZW-L is that, with TMCC/Legacy in mind, the remote has all of the ground plugs linked together with a separate similar screw plug that is designed to be wired to the TMCC base.

Because of this design feature all of the ground wires are common to each other and only the one wire to the TMCC system must be run. Without that, I would say your doing it how I would do it. A line from each handle to the TMCC system.

Be advised I don't know how DCS will affect things once you add your system. I only use K-Line/Lionel motive power and as such I can't attest to that. I do know though, that DCS is not a fan of buss wiring so that might come into play later.
