Getting ready for winter.  B&O snow flanger 43 stands on a shop lead at Edgewater on the Baltimore & New York railway.  It's in for inspection and preparation for coming winter snow. The flanger was built from a Train Craft tool car (Kit 404) done in 1954 by making a few alterations, adding scratch made details, truss rods and a head light. It also has a detailed interior. Flangers like this were pushed by a locomotive, with crew members up front to watch the track and handle the compressed air flanger blade controls, to lift it before passing over switches and grade crossings.

FOR TODAY:  A B&O mixed freight passes a large vacant lot in Patsburg.  City of Patsburg surveyor Ned Marshall is about to take some measurements.   The city council is deciding as what to do with this vacant lot which used to be home to the Brewtown neighborhood.  Townsfolk at the recent zoning meetings have suggested just making it an open field for improved viewing of passing trains.    Others have campaigned for a baseball diamond and tennis courts.  While others desire a drive in theatre.   Who knows how this will turn out .... stay tuned! Trackside ( a day late ) for this week.

Brakeman Zeke Lugan snapped this photo while waiting on the ground for his train to back over the switch after having set out this car of timber.    IMG_8404

BNSF diesels pass through Moody, Texas.  Moody is one of the many little towns in our area that is out in the agricultural zones and with the advent of the "big box - superstores" is rapidly fading away.  Turns out Moody has two things I like occasionally 1. a terrific cafe with great traditional food (like country fried steak/biscuits) and 2. the RR runs in parallel with the main road only about 100 ft distant with no obstructions to prevent close track side observation.  So here on a nice Texas spring day is the BNSF train headed nominally South out of Dallas.

Decided to construct a salvage yard after being inspired by Patrick's  ( trumptrain ) scenes some time ago.     20231222_191548

Had to readjust the outside track to give me a 3 inch wider gap from the inside track.

The steamer seen in the yard was one being transfered on a switcher Saturday project of mine..............20230923_163932

...........a switcher that Mark Boyce mentioned on was hopefully going to a small rail line for reuse .   (  a small overseas country put in a bid but eventually had to withdraw because of a lack of funds.              Anyone that might be interested in the purchase of the old switcher can put in a bid at the salvage yard shack.  .  )

Godspeed all.

Dallas - It brings me joy to read your post in that my scrap yard inspired yours!   BTW - my people will be calling your people to put in a bid on that old steamer .. lol!

Thanks Patrick.     There is so much to see on your rail lines that is inspiring.          I do have to let you know that you'll have to bring your rail crane car as I no longer have an operational unit to lift the steamer out of the yard.

( I hope the bay might have a discounted price for one, lol. )

Maybe you could work out a deal to get the whole gondola with switcher switched to Patsburg scrap yard.

Well we have not done T.S.Th much lately so I thought I would post something.  Here is the mighty Lionel # 8203 PRR 2-4-2 shaking the ground as it pulls its short train out of the depot and up the line.  This loco, from MPC in 1972, uncatalogued in 1974, and available again in 1975 pulls an early Lionel PW PRR Baby Ruth boxcar and an early PW Lionel tinplate PRR caboose.

I better get my Trackside Thursday post in while it is still Thursday.

The theater district in the city of Christopolis.

Though you cannot see them, the presence of the crossing gate affirms that the zoo is almost trackside.

DSC00016

The Cathedral of St. Whatshisface is celebrating Christmas Eve with the choir and a chamber orchestra on the lawn playing festive holiday music. The orchestra has picked up an unexpected member. A gorilla that just escaped over the wall of the zoo tries his hand at tuba playing. Behind the orchestra, another of the gorilla's friends is also escaping the zoo via a low tree limb. I wonder what instrument he will play, electric banana?

The trackside Christopolis City Park is a great place for winter fun as well as train viewing.

The Great Northeastern Railway serves the harbor on the Christopolis waterfront.

Though a new house is being built, I wouldn't buy it due to the location. The Great Northeastern Railway passes the back yard, and the sidings of the Terryville freight yard/engine storage facility terminates in the front of the house. Imagine trying to get a good night's sleep at this location!
