Whoa!... 'String line' accidents seem to be the latest....fad?...for the industry! In mid-April this year the CSX dumped a line of cars...part of a 14,000+foot train!!!!...on a similar turn in Fostoria, Ohio. Empties in the midst of loads...a recipe, indeed.
When I saw your post title, I was sure it was at one of the turns to the Rockville Bridge. I travel rte.11 on my way to/from York meets. I always marvel at the approach curves from the west bank onto the bridge. They look like O36 in O3R parlence....but I know they're much broader than that. I would think a ?-8-? or ?-10-? steam engine of yore would have had to tread VERY lightly through those approach curves!!!!
Time to re-evaluate the economies of extra-L-O-N-G train lengths, the distribution of loads thereon, and the preparation of crews handling the same?
