I’m running a Lionel Legacy K4 which has 2 smoke units. One main and one for the horn. When I start the engine after about 3 seconds the breaker trips on the powerhouse. This occurs even if the smoke units are switched off. If I open it up and disconnect the wires going to the horn smoke unit everything runs fine. Strangely enough if I have both smoke units connected and running normally but I don’t put the 4 screws back in to secure the shell to the base everything runs fine. Any ideas where this is shorting out?

You're compressing wires and creating a short.  Look at the wire bundle and carefully examine any wires that are being compressed when the shell goes on.  Also, the connectors that connect the shell components to the frame electronics sometimes need to be repositioned to prevent the compression from shorting things.  Since it's associated with the whistle smoke, look real close at those wires or anything near them.

Imagine how much harder this is with the E6 Lindbergh Atlantic with whistle smoke!
