Very nice. Two points however:

1) UP did not have any cabooses like that.

2) Why couldn't have Lionel installed illuminated marker lamps on the rear?

Wonder why Lionel would do that style of a caboose when it is made to go with the BB when the UP didn't even have them?

Because Lionel can sell ANYTHING with the Lionel name on it, no mater what.

Easy answer to #2.  Just read #1.

All that matters is it's a terrific looking caboose that many a toy/model train enthusiast will enjoy.  Mine arrived this week too, and the graphics are terrific.

Ed H. What is that caboose that you posted a pic of?  Is that the new Lionel that just came out. I like all the lettering on the side

The 21143 caboose picture I posted is one that Lionel/K-Line did quite a few years ago. It was an uncataloged special offered by the Train Loft.  Appears to exist also with a K-Line part number.

Hotwater, is it just the graphics that are wrong?

Is the caboose itself(paint scheme aside) a fairly accurate model of an actual UP caboose?

If the answer to both questions is Yes, maybe Lionel is just using their crystal ball and producing it before UP does

BTW Jack, your knowledge and willingness to share it, are true assets to the forum, and I Thank You, for your contributions to the forums, I for one have learned a LOT from your postings,

Yes, they are fantasy.

Yes, the caboose itself is a VERY accurate UP CA-4 class. I purchased one, some years ago, when they were first offered by Lionel. Upon its arrival, I was fairly disappointed that it had a smoke unit, yet no illuminated marker lights. Upon closer inspection, even the lettering was not correct for the late steam era. Thus, I first up-graded the couplers to Kadee #805, then removed the smoke unit, and finally added Tomar illuminated marker lamps using the switch for the smoke unit to turn them on and off. Finally, I sent the caboose to my custom painter buddy, along with a set of correct Champ UP caboose decals, and he then "finished" the caboose and weathered it. It really is an excellent model, and compares very well with my brass UP CA-4 caboose model.

Thanks. Just trying to help & educate in spite of some of the negativism.

Has anyone had a problem with taking off the smokestack to put in smoke? Note instructions show it turned sideways to put smoke in. Does it smoke good? A little nervous to keep pulling out those little wires on each side of the smokestack. Afraid of bending them or them getting loose from pulling out all of the time to put in smoke.

You should not have to remove the smoke stack - the top / shroud over the smoke stack should tip / swivel out of the way for you to put drops into it. I am not home so I can't pull it out of the box, but everyone of my cabooses operate the same way. It might be a little stiff but it should work.

I agree, not at all happy to add fluid everytime by removing the stack and its wires.  No problem so far doing it as PSU1980 suggested.
