I just received this Williams set I purchased on ebay.  The Brass Hudson is the first Hudson Williams produced.  They left a few unpainted.  It is unusual but not rare.  They appear occasionally on ebay.  The passenger cars are anodized gold.  I have not seen them prior to this.  In 1976 Williams had a thousand smooth sided aluminum four car sets made.  Seven hundred of the sets became the Bicentennial Set.  The other three hundred sets were sold and became Circus Sets.  Except, this four car set has appeared.  Everything in this set is Williams with the exception of one frame and trucks which are early Lionel.

Has anyone any information on this set?IMG_3074.1IMG_3075.1IMG_3083.1IMG_3085.1IMG_3086.1

Bill,

You're right on the mark with the locomotive.

If I'm not mistaken this unpainted Dreyfuss Hudson, from the early brass series, is Williams Product No. 4001B, or 4001-B.  The painted version  seen farther down in your photos is Product No. 4001, i.e. without the '-B'.

Your 5405 (Product No. 4000) is also available in unpainted brass (I believe as Product No. 4000B or 4000-B).  It seems to be rarer than the similarly unpainted Dreyfuss although I've seen at least one of them for sale on the big 'E' since the beginning of this year.
