I have always been intrigued by the look and certainly the history of navy rail cars. Helium cars I recall seeing in the early 80’s at scale shows were somewhat crude and vey expensive! Alas I never acquired  one. I somewhat recall there being a limited edition brass model, manufacturer ? They were very expensive and blink, they were gone! Anyone remember them? There are some modern kits available that look to be well researched (as seen on the bay). Made from Laser printed parts. ? Durability.

I have seen some vintage ones in tow on some of the vintage restoration locos videos seen here on this section of 2 rail posts , very exciting!
any photos or videos of yours appreciated.
thx.

Dave! Whether kit or fabrication, I like your helium car find, even better a Strasburg  show keeper! It doesn’t have to be a rivet counters paradise! It tells the story well. I like the photos, thank you much.

I believe the vintage  kits were made by a couple of different makers. There is ample information and discussion tucked in on this site.

The high end brass model was a Pecos River Brass offering. I did see one or two of these at the Stamford O scale meet back in the eighties (Memorable times when All Nation and locomotive workshop items were on the tables in abundance). I read that Pecos River production yielded eighty of them in O scale (2 rail) and eighty in H.O.

thanks for sharing.
